Skagit Speedway

Mid Season Championship

July 9, 2016

It seemed that Steve Parker had the Sportsman Sprint feature well in hand.   With nine laps remaining, a former Skagit Speedway track champ was enjoying close to a full straightaway lead over Jared Peterson.  Jared, piloting the Northwest Focus Midget sportsman sprint #1, had made his way from seventh to second place, but it seemed he was running out of time.  With no lapped cars in between, Peterson would catch the break he needed as Clayton Sibley and Victoria Cantu got together at the back of the field, causing a caution and erasing Parker’s advantage. On the restart, Jared used every line he could find until finding enough forward bite out of turn four to slide underneath Steve at lap 23 to take the lead and to the win.

Parker would take second with Roger Oudman taking third.

Parker would win the scramble and Peterson qualified the fastest of the nine cars who were not locked into the eight scramble positions.

Jason Solwold , leading all 25 laps of the feature event, would grab the win in the 360 division.

Solwold advanced from fourth to second in the scramble, then, starting on the outside of the front row, used the high groove to take the initial lead, going wire to wire for the win.

Colton Heath was second with Justin Youngquist running third.

Colton won the scramble and Greg Hamilton was fastest amongst the time in cars.

A good scramble finish also gave Lawrence O’Connor, in the High Society Modified division, a great starting spot, as he would advance from third to win the scramble and giving him the pole for the main event.  Taking full advantage of his pole position start, he would lead all 25 laps of the main to grab the win.

Tyler Ketchum finished a career best second with Louis Nutter Sr. running third.

Trey Starks Wins SpeedWeek Northwest Finale At Southern Oregon

and Takes the 2016 SpeedWeek Northwest Title

Trey, driving for car owners Doug and Kathy Rutz, would only be slowed down by two stoppages but he would master each restart to go and take the win.

Trey would receive some pressure late in the race,  but would be able to keep all challengers behind him.

Trey would win his first career SpeedWeek Northwest feature and would be the fifth different winner in six races for this year’s schedule.

Once all of the points were tallied up Starks had the most with three markers to spare over second place.  This is the second time a driver from Washington captured a SpeedWeek title.

Rick Ziehl Returns To Arizona Speedway Victory Lane With ASCS Southwest

The Lucas Oil #20z would start seventh, as Jesse Baker would take off to the lead from the pole. He would lose the spot on lap three as Alex Pettas would go in search of the win, but would come up short as his #2 machine rolled to a stop on lap 22.

Rick, who had made his way up to second and as Pettas saw his night end,  would take over the top spot, going on to take the win with ASCS Southwest Series, as he was being chased to the line by second place Lorne Wofford.
