John Carroll Classic
June 11, 2016
Trey Starks led the final 19 laps of the 360 feature event at Skagit Speedway to take the John Carroll Classic win, presented by Industrial Resources Inc. on Janicki Industries night at the races.
Evan Margeson would take to the early at the start of the feature event, with Starks looming a short distance away. As Margeson closed on slower traffic and right before Evan began putting cars down a lap, Trey would find the fast line around the top of turns three and four and would use it to jet into the lead. Evan would keep Starks close as a rapidly advancing Colton Heath would also shrink the gap. Trey would have to endure multiple restarts and some intensely heavy traffic while turning away Evan and Colton to go onto score the win. This would be Trey's second in a row after a triumph last week at Grays Harbor Raceway. Colton would get past Evan for second and would settle for second place while Evan would hold off Jason Solwold for third.
Heat wins would go to Trey Starks, Evan Margeson and Cam Smith.
Quick time was set by Travis Jacobson.
Devin Barnes made it two wins in a row at Skagit Speedway in the Sportsman Sprint division.
Barnes had his engine expire on the final lap of his last feature event win and was looking at sitting out the rest of the year. Black Market Speed stepped up with a Bullet for him to use and Devin took full advantage of this to go onto lead all 25 laps to win is second straight feature event at Skagit Speedway. James Bundy would take second and Derek Roberts came in third.
Heat wins went to Steve Parker and Zach McCabe.
Quick time was set by Steve Parker.
At Grays Harbor Raceway...
Rob Lindsey takes win at Grays Harbor Raceway in the Wingless Sprint Series feature event.
Rob Lindsey would lead the field to the green flag as Jonathan Jorgenson would be right on his tail. Jake Gilman and Tim Alberding would battle for third it would be Gilman winning the battle and would take over third. It would be lap 3 when the first caution came out as two cars made contact on the back stretch.
Rob would have tough company as Jonathan would be on his back bumper until lap 5 and Jorgenson would spin in turn one. On the restart Lindsey would slowly pull away from the field, as Gilman and Alberding maintained the two and three spots. Lap seven would see another caution.
Lindsey looked to have a perfect restart as he would pull out in front of Gilman, Alberding and Sterling Kane. A lap 10 caution would see a fourth place running Kane spin in turn four.
On the restart Gilman would look to the inside line of Lindsey in turn one on, but wouldn't have the momentum to pull off the pass. This would allow Rob to pull away by a handful of car lengths to go onto his win at Grays Harbor Raceway.
Jake Gilman would finish in second and Jonathan Jorgenson would come in third.
Heat winners were Rob Lindsey and Jonathan Jorgenson. The dash would be won by Rob Lindsey and Rob would also set quick time.
The Northwest Focus Midget Series would make another visit to Grays Harbor Raceway.
Chance Crum would lead the field to the green flag for the start of the 25 lap Northwest Focus Midget Series feature. Ryan Cully would take to the early lead from Crum and would slowly pull away from the field. Nick Evans would moved into the third spot as he set his sights on Cully and Crum. On lap 5, Crum and Evans would start to reel in Cully as Evans and Crum would race side by side for the second spot. Nik Larson would join in on the battle as well as he would look to the inside of Crum for the third spot. The top four drivers were within reach of each other and lapped traffic would become a factor. Larson would take over the third spot and looked to take the lead off turn four as Cully would make contact with a lapped car. The first caution of the feature came out a lap 11 for a four car incident.
Larson would lead Evans and Crum to the green flag on the restart, but caution once again came out and Larson would look to have another great restart as Evans and Crum battled for the second spot. Michael Vollbrecht looked to the inside of Crum for third, but wouldn't be able to make the pass. On lap 15 the first red flag of the evening would come out. Nik Larson looked to be the driver to beat until a late race issue with his car would allowed Nick Evans to get by and go on to pick up his first career Grays Harbor Raceway win.
Ryan Cully would take second and Eric Turner came in third.
Lee St. Paul would take the SpeedMart Hard Charger Award.
Heat winners were Chance Crum, Tristin Thomas and Ryan Cully.
